This website is for Police and other members of Law Enforcement.  If you are not into law enforcement but would like to learn self defense and mixed martial arts (MMA), then check out www.BestFreeTrial.com .

Hello, I am Master Marcos Avellan.  I made this website to deliver a very important message to the south Florida police.

You being a police officer, I don't need to convince you how important it is to know self-defense.  You can't always count on your tazer or your gun - without a doubt you owe it to yourself and your family to know how to defend yourself with nothing more than your hands.

At the Police Academy, you learned some self defense techniques... but unfortunately, most cops are learning outdated martial arts techniques... and you know this.  Due to politics and policies, the government is always slow to establish updated changes - this is with everything government related.

FFA Certified Weapons Instructor and Black Belt, Master Efrain Ruiz, winning his fight by choke.

Unless you have been living in a cave, you're aware of the rise of Mixed Martial Arts (MMA).  MMA has filtered out what is useless and doesn't work and has demonstrated truly effective martial arts technique.  Most traditional martial arts have shown to be outdated in these forms of competition - and the few forms of traditional martial arts that are working have only done so in combination with other arts, hence the term MMA.

If you ask most experienced police officers, they will tell you they wish that more modern MMA techniques would be incorporated into the training at the academy... and I'm sure that you would agree with that...

So why aren't you training MMA right now?  Are you going to tell me that just because the academy didn't teach you MMA, that you are just going to go, "Oh well, too bad we didn't learn that stuff..."

That's like the old cliche, "So if everybody was jumping off of a bridge, you would too?"

The answer is "NO" and it should be the same with your training!  Don't settle for inferior training, follow-up with MMA training.

Now you don't want just any sport MMA training - you want job-specific MMA training... MMA for cops... and we offer that at the Freestyle Fighting Academy in Miami and Davie, Florida.  Along with world class MMA, we also offer weapons classes (defense versus knifes, sticks, and guns) taught by Master Efrain Ruiz, PLUS a police-only class taught by City of Miami Police Officer and FFA instructor Coach Roberto Mallon

Master Efrain Ruiz is a Gulf War Veteran with over 26 years of experience in the martial arts, with black belts in several martial arts.  He has a black belt in Kickboxing under legendary kickboxer Joe Lewis, a black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu under Ricardo Teixeira, and has advanced instructor certification in Israeli Weapons Tactics under world renowned weapons expert Mike Lee Kanarek (who also conducts weapons seminars for law enforcement across the country).  Along with his expertise in self-defense, Master Efrain is also an experienced MMA competitor with plenty of fights - giving him additional insight to what works and doesn't work.

Coach Roberto Mallon has been involved with martial arts for over ten years and knows what works and what doesn't work on the street.  He has competed in martial arts competitions as well - putting his techniques to the test versus other well-conditioned and trained fighters.  You can be 100% confident with Coach Mallon's technique - along with the rest of the world class instructors at the Freestyle Fighting Academy.

TESTIMONIAL

“My training at the Freestyle Fighting Academy has been incredible, I recommend it for everyone.  Master Marcos has asked me to say something about the training for law enforcement and I have to say that his program is geared perfectly for law enforcement.  They take the training very seriously and work hard to make sure we learn the best techniques.  I can tell you that my martial arts training has definitely saved me a few times from some very intense situations.”

TESTIMONIAL

“The training at FFA is great!  It's important to train in martial arts because it gives you a confidence that people can feel.  People are always trying to gauge an officer, if you aren't confident, they will know it.  My training has also allowed me to control suspects without hurting them.  I recommend my training at FFA to any officer.”

-- Officer Billy Barrow
32 Years Old - City of Coral Gables

TESTIMONIAL

“I've been training at the Freestyle Fighting Academy for over eight years.  The training at FFA has not only saved my life on several occasions, but it has also made me very confident, in good physical shape, and has made me a much happier individual.  There is a lot of stress relieve gained from training and I need all the stress relief I can get!  But in all seriousness, I recommend FFA for everyone and I feel very privileged to be able to teach the Police-Only classes on Saturdays.  Hope to meet some of you there!"

I'm sure this website isn't telling you anything you already don't know... so why haven't you been training?  I've done a few polls at different seminars I've taught to police training centers, and here is the most common answers I get...

TOP 4 EXCUSES FOR COPS NOT TRAINING:

1)  I don't have the time
2)  I work odd hours
3)  I can't afford to get hurt and miss work
4)  I'm not sure...

Excuse #1 - I don't have the time...

I understand you may have a very busy work schedule - but if something is important enough, you will make time for it.  For instance, if you just diagnosed with a potentially fatal disease and had to get treatment two times a week at the hospital for one hour at a time, for the next six months, I am 100% sure you would make time for it...

Now you are probably thinking right now, "Yeah, but learning martial arts isn't as important..."  Well, that depends... it depends on whether or not you are going to be in a life or death fight with an assailant six months from today...  And unless you are a fortune teller, you don't know... so you are basically gambling with your life.  With a profession as dangerous as your, you should never take good fortune for granted - you should be ready for anything.  You owe it to yourself and your loved ones to be prepared.  Make that time and be ready.

Excuse #2 - I work odd hours...

This may sound like the first excuse but they are a bit different.  This is the person who genuinely wants to train but feels that the average martial arts schedule is too limited and it wouldn't be realistic to train during those times... this is a true problem... most martial arts schools are only open from 6pm to 8:30pm.  The Freestyle Fighting Academy is the only mixed martial arts school in the world open 24 hours a day, seven days a week - with classes started as early as 6am and running all the way until 1:45am...  From 1:45am to 6am, when there is no classes, people are allowed to come in and train amongst themselves and have full access to our equipment, heavy bags, and full size weight room.

FFA is truly the "No-Excuse" MMA gym - you can make time to train us and there is no reason why you shouldn't...

Excuse #3 - I can't afford to get hurt and miss work...

This is a very reasonable concern - which is why at FFA we take every measure possible to make sure all our students are safe.  When we do engage in sparring, it is with full protective gear, such as head gear, mouthpiece, hand wraps, gloves, shin guards, and groin protection.  We have an excellent safety record at FFA.

However, you may not even want to take that minor small chance of an injury... which is understandable... which is why we are the only MMA school to offer TECHNIQUE ONLY classes.  These are classes, which we offer three times a week, that have ONLY technique - zero wrestling or sparring.  Although we recommend some sort of "live" training so that you can be confident in your technique, training "technique only" is definitely 1000 times better than not training at all - and it will prepare you for a potential encounter with someone who has never trained a day in their life.  These technique-only classes can be complimented with a regular class once every two weeks or with our conditioning classes - it's up to you.

Excuse #4 - I'm not sure...

"I'm not sure..." is a common one I hear... When I ask,

"Why haven't you started training in MMA?"

A lot of people do tell me, "I'm not sure..."

To me, that answer means they are worried that maybe MMA training isn't for them... maybe they can't make it fit into their busy lifestyle... maybe they won't learn anything they don't already know...

That is why at the Freestyle Fighting Academy we offer a 30 day free trial.

ANYONE can begin training at the FFA!

Training Room #1

Men and women have excelled in our style of martial arts.  You can be short, tall, thin, big - it doesn't matter.  Our instructors will teach you and develop a style that works best for you.

It's never too late to start training.  The average age of our adult program is about 27 years old, with a bunch of students over age 40.  Absolutely no experience is required to begin your training.

You have never done a day of exercise in your life?  No problem!  You do not have to be in shape to begin training at our academy - most people who begin are not.  At FFA, our instructors have years of specialized training in physical fitness, along with their martial arts expertise, and will develop a program specifically designed for you.  We have helped MANY students lose weight and get into shape.

Our system of martial arts and self-defense has been proven time and time again by our instructors and students.  Our instructors, all professional fighters with many years of training, have utilized our techniques in the cage and in the ring - at the national and international level.  The difference between joining our academy and other academies is that with us, you know that the techniques we are teaching you work - since we have applied them before in actual no holds barred fights.  We are 100% confident that our style of mixed martial arts is the ultimate in self-defense.
